Villa Semara was originally designed by long-term Asia-based expats as a spacious family home in classic Balinese compound style. After a no-expenses-spared architect-led transformation, it is now available to guests as a stunning contemporary-meets-traditional sanctuary with an abundance of both social and private living spaces, and a charming staff with strong attachments to the villa and total focus on making their guests happy.

Set upon 5,000 m2 of tropical gardens next to Cemagi Beach, Villa Semara’s rolling lawns of Japanese grass almost stretch to the sacred sea temple Pura Gede Luhur Batungaus which rises above the Indian Ocean, as a silhouette against the coast’s famed crimson sunsets.

Start the day with a gentle stroll along the near-deserted black-sand beach, followed by a hearty breakfast on the living room’s breeze-cooled ocean-view deck. After an energizing game of tennis, laze by the 20-metre pool and let the butler mix you a ‘Semarapura Breeze’ at the poolside bar and lounge. A leisurely lunch prepared by the villa chef and served in the dining pavilion’s air-conditioned cool might be followed by a little siesta or a reviving dip in the master suite’s jacuzzi, then a visit to the spa balé for a restorative massage. Evenings at Villa Semara are equally enchanting: sundowners at the sunset balé, a welcome dance performed by local villagers, a seafood barbecue on the pool terrace to the hum of the bamboo rindik played under a canopy of stars.

Venturing beyond the villa’s grounds, the villa’s insightful staff lead fascinating tours of the local area, or you could head to Echo Beach for a light lunch, or a round of golf at the nearby Greg Norman-designed award-winning Nirwana Bali Golf Course? Sight-seeing is also too easy, courtesy of Villa Semara’s 16-seat minibus and driver (extra charge).

Those seeking boutiques, bars, restaurants and bright lights can head to Seminyak 15 kms away: the beauty of Villa Semara is that it’s far enough from the hustle of Bali’s most popular spots to forget they exist, yet convenient enough to explore them should the mood take you.

 

General :

Location : Cemagi Beach, south-west Bali, Indonesia.

Capacity : 10 adults (5 bedrooms: 4 with king-size beds, 1 with twins which can fit together to form a comfortable king).  5 extra beds can be set up on guest request ad additional charge.

Living areas : Open-sided living room, poolside bar and lounge, media room with pool table, dining pavilion with table for 10, kitchen with breakfast bar, poolside dining deck with table for 10, sunset balé.

Pool : 20 m x 6 m (including children’s section), outdoor jacuzzi.

Staff : Villa manager, private chef and cook, villa attendants, gardener, maintenance, security. Babysitters and spa therapists available on request (additional charge).

Dining : Western, Asian, vegetarian and children’s menus. Requests accommodated (including special diets).

Communication : Telephone landline, WiFi and mobile phone coverage. Computer, printer and fax available on request.

Entertainment : 60-inch TV with surround-sound and multiple-zone central music system in media room, 26/40-inch satellite channel TVs in bedrooms, DVD players, Bose iPod docking stations.

Sport : Pool table, table tennis, tennis court (shared), volleyball, 2 bicycles.

For families : Villa Semara is well equipped for families. Facilities include: baby cot, high chair, car seat, shallow section in the pool.

Spa : Spa balé with two massage tables, professional therapists on call for treatments from a comprehensive spa menu.

Transport : A 16-seat minibus and driver is available for 8 consecutive hours at US $50++ per day (excluding petrol).

Additional facilities : Barbecue, in-room safes, back-up generator.
